The Trafalgar – First New Pub in a Century on the King’s Road – to Open this October
After more than a hundred years, the King’s Road is finally getting a brand-new pub – and it promises to be worth the wait. This October, will welcome ‘The Trafalgar Public House’, a grand transformation of a grade II listed building in Chelsea.
The Trafalgar will be a new venture from the Three Cheers Pub Co. founders Tom Peake, Mark Reynolds and Nick Fox. Backed with a £2.4 million investment, the pub takes its name from one of Britain’s most famous naval triumphs and is set to chart a new course as a lively social hub in Chelsea.
The building, originally designed by Sir Roger Blomfield – who also created Chequers – still boasts soaring five-metre ceilings, elegant Edwardian windows and ornate plasterwork. These heritage features will sit alongside a handsome new interior of chandeliers, leather dining chairs and intimate booths, creating a timeless and welcoming space.
Serving both pints and performances; on the ground floor guests can expect the best in British hospitality – from perfectly poured bitters to the best of English sparkling wine and seasonal dining, while downstairs the spirit shifts from supper to showtime. A hidden bar and state-of-the-art sound system in the basement sets the stage for live music, cabaret and comedy, bringing further excitement to the King’s Road.
For co-founder Tom Peake, the project is about more than bricks, mortar and beer taps: “We are delighted to be taking on this historic site and creating a wonderful new public house, a home from home for Chelsea locals and visitors alike. We are proud to be a part of this exciting development and look forward to bringing a real sense of community and connection to the area that only a proper British pub can.”
Cadogan’s Chief Executive, Hugh Seaborn, added: “The Trafalgar will be a great addition to the King’s Road. Pubs are a central part of community life and we are proud to be reintroducing not just a brilliant pub, but one that will contribute towards Chelsea’s fantastic arts scene with unmissable music, theatre, comedy and performance. We know that it will be welcomed by locals and become a new destination for those visiting Chelsea.”
The redevelopment of the two-story 4,735 sq metre site is part of Cadogan’s Gaumont project which is designed to celebrate Chelsea’s cultural heritage and enhance its thriving creative scene.
It features flagship retail, a revitalised independent cinema, spaces for young independent creative businesses and a significant public art installation by internationally acclaimed artist Shezad Dawood.
