Local child switches on Christmas lights

Chelsea officially began the countdown to Christmas with the Lights Switch-On in Sloane Square on Saturday 18th November. A special local child was chosen as Santa’s Helper to flick the all-important switch. Serena O’Sullivan, age eight, starred during the climax of the afternoon’s event by helping Santa fill the Square and surrounding areas with magical twinkling lights.
Each year, Cadogan chooses a local child to help Santa turn on the area’s Christmas lights. Whether it’s a little one who’s achieved something extraordinary during the year, helped others or has a request which Santa can make come true, it’s a tradition that helps to make the community event extra special. Serena, who attends St. Joseph’s, was nominated by her sister for being a tower of strength during a difficult year due to family illness and was praised as a ‘courageous young lady’.
Arriving with Santa on his sleigh, Serena switched on the Christmas lights to much applause. As well as the magical Switch-On moment, visitors enjoyed meeting Santa’s reindeer, festive entertainment and the opportunity to say ‘hello’ to Santa himself.
