Sleep Out at Duke of York Square on October 4th 2024 in support of charity Glass Door
The annual Sleep Out at Duke of York Square, now in its twelfth year, raises essential funds for Glass Door – providing a lifeline to vulnerable Londoners, supporting them on their journey out of homelessness.
Every October for the past eleven years, as the nights close in and the weather turns, supporters of Glass Door have braved the elements and slept out on the pavements at Duke of York Square, raising awareness and funds for the charity. To date, well over £1 million has been raised, but more is urgently required – latest figures show rough sleeping in London is at its highest levels since records began (having risen over 19% compared to the previous year).
Colin Firth, a Glass Door supporter, brings the situation to life in this must-watch short video.
Glass Door provides year-round advice through a team of expert caseworkers and coordinates London’s largest emergency winter shelter network. They save lives and create a route out of homelessness for good. Over the past 12 months, the need for Glass Door’s services has surged, with a 30% increase in the number of people accessing its caseworkers for support. Last winter, there was an 80% increase in demand for a space at its emergency winter shelters.
Perceptions of homelessness are also highlighted in the latest Saatchi Gallery exhibition in collaboration with Prince William – Homelessness Re-framed – which runs from 7 August – 20 September 2024.
Join the sponsored Sleep Out at Duke of York Square to help Glass Door in its commitment to supporting people get—and stay—off the street. The event is supported by Cadogan and participants can take part in-person at the Duke of York Square in Chelsea, or remotely from anywhere in the world.
